Surprisingly Striped Cloud Formations

Our friends at The Cloud Appreciation Society know a good cloud specimen when they see one. For instance, take the 'cloud streets’ – official classification would be Cumulus radiatus, named as such because of the long lines of clouds, when viewed from below, appear to radiate from a point on the horizon due to the effect of perspective.

The
Stratocumulus undulatus clouds captured buy Emily Painter spotted them over Roanoak, Virginia, US, are aligned perpendicular to the wind, so take on a slightly different formation to the 'street clouds'.
