Saturn Ring Mystery
Exploring the solar system
Saturn stands out in our minds as the planet with an extraordinary form: its striped rings, suspended around the pale gaseous orb, extend over an almighty 175,000 miles.
But ever since Galileo discovered the rings in 1610, their origin and purpose have remained a mystery. We still don’t even know how many of them there are. Scientists believe that answering these questions will add significantly to our knowledge of the whole solar system.
